Punugulu with idly batter | punukulu recipe

Punugulu is a delicious breakfast cum snack recipe from Andhra cuisine. This recipe is of deep fried item, that can be prepared with idly batter or dosa batter, added with finely chopped onions and green chillies. Here, I am preparing punugulu with idly batter.  You can use left over idly batter as well. Punugulu is also famous Street food in Andhra Pradesh.

Ingredients:

  1. Idly batter: 1 cup
  2. All purpose flour: 1/4th cup
  3. Onions: 1, big finely chopped
  4. Green chillies: 2, finely chopped
  5. Cumin seeds: half table spoon
  6. Salt: as required

Procedure:

  1. If you have idly or dosa batter you can use that otherwise you go to this link to make idly batter idly batter procedure.
  2. Add all purpose flour, finely chopped onions, green chillies, cumin seeds and salt to idly or dosa batter. Mix well and make little thick consistency.
  3. Now heat oil in kadai for frying. Drop small portions of batter into hot oil. Now fry punugulu on both sides till golden colour appears.
  4. Now remove punugulu from oil with strainer and place them in kitchen tissue paper.

Now delicious punugulu are ready to serve.

Note:

  1. If batter is too thick, then add little amount of water.
  2. If batter is too thin, then add little amount of all purpose flour.
