Jeera rice is a delicious rice recipe from north Indian cuisine. Rice and jeera are the main ingredients for this jeera rice. We don’t add masla ingredients which we use for biryani and pulav (rice pilaf).

Jeera rice is a quick and easy rice recipe and goes well with all gravy curries and all dal recipes.

Coming to the preparation of this jeera rice, it can be prepared it in two methods. In the first type of preparation, we fry jeera, onions and all remaining  ingredients. Then, add rice and roast well. Next add double quantity of water to the rice to cook well.

In the second method, first we boil the rice by adding required salt to it. Next we will fry jeera, onions and remaining ingredients in a curry pan, and then we add boiled rice to it. Both procedures are easy and give similar taste.

Ingredients:

  1. Jeera: 3 table spoons
  2. Boiled rice: 1 cup
  3. Green chillies: 2, vertically chopped (optional)
  4. Onions: 1 big, thinly sliced (vertically)
  5. Cashew nuts: 7 or 8
  6. Bay leaf: 2
  7. Salt : as required.

Procedure:

  1. Boil the rice. Add salt in boiling water and rice. Cook rice as fluffly.
  2. In a curry pan, heat 1 table spoon of oil and 1 table spoon of ghee, once oil becomes hot add jeera, bay leaf and cashew nuts. Saute for 1 minute.
  3. Now add chopped onions, green chillies. Fry for two minutes.
  4. Now add cooked rice and stir well. Adjust salt.

Now delicious jeera rice is ready to serve.

Notes:

  1. Use basmati rice (long grain rice) for better look and taste.
  2. Ghee is optional. You can prepare this either using oil or ghee.(according to your taste)
