Chalimidi recipe (glutinous rice flour recipes)

Chalimidi  recipe is a sweetmeat recipe, prepared with rice flour and grated jaggery. It is a compulsory recipe prepared for every festival as a prasad in Andhra Pradesh. It is a no-cook instant recipe. .

There are two types chalimidi recipes prepared, one is with sugar and other one is with jaggery.

Chalimidi is prepared instantly by mixing rice flour either with sugar powder or grated jaggery dissolved in water.

Another variant chalimidi is prepared with sugar/jaggery syrup.  The syrup preparation involves boil the grated jaggery/sugar with little water until get a thread layer. Then add rice flour to the sugar syrup slowly and mix well–without lumps, then cook for 5-8 minutes.

My mom usually prepares first variant of chalimidi for most of the festivals like sri rama navami, vara lakshmi vratam, vinayaka chavithi, deepavali(diwali) and for the navaratri (dussehra). I too usually prepares the same.

Whenever you offer chalimidi to the god, serve with vada pappu (soaked green gram/ moong dal). Because it is our ancient style of serving chalimidi vadappu to the Lord.

Ingredients
  • Rice flour: 1 cup
  • Jaggery: ¼ th cup , grated
  • Coconut peices: few fresh, diced (optional)
Instructions
  1. Mix jaggery in 1 table spoon of water, mix till jaggery completely dissolved.
  2. Now add coconut pieces and rice flour little by little and make soft dough. make round ball using this dough.

 

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 3 minutes

Equipment required: mixing bowl
